Fishballs, squidballs, etc.,

Affordable, delicious, yummy...

Three descriptions that could satisfy my food craving however I am not referring to expensive meals in restaurants but only to street foods---fish ball, kikiam, squid ball, chicken ball!
Whenever there’s a chance, I stop by the street vendor and eat this. Lucky for me, my stomach enjoys street food.

I remember when I was in senior year in high school, I was designated the page editor for our school paper for Livelihood Section on my first try out in writing. I sat in one of the benches in our town’s park. From there, I just drafted a story about Angono’s known products and it’s neighbouring town and the rest is history.

Among the articles I submitted and got published was about street foods (e.g., fish ball, squid ball, kikiam, chicken ball..etc), how profitable this small business is. The article was beautifully written out of a vendor in the town who started with very small capital and no permanent stall but later on grew and take note, with a big stall!

The article was well received by readers but what they never found out that remains a secret of the author to date-the article was just a product of imagination and creative thinking. Haha!
The page won the first prize in school writing for Livelihood stories, thanks to fish ball, kikiam, squidball and chicken ball!

...Goodbyes

The easiest thing to do is despise but the hardest is to set yourself free not of your enemies but of your friends...
The journey continues...true enough, you will walk with some people along the way. These people you will spend time with, laughing with and sometimes, crying with.
However, there will be a point when you will wake up that everything has limitations, realising that perhaps, it is better to walk alone in your journey than to be with a lot but none will be there to hold your hand when you needed it most.
To hate an enemy is easier than to forget who you treated as friends.
In our lives, we simply live by the fact: enjoy the company who you can share your pains.
Friendships do really come with a price tag and so, happy journey to everyone!

she will always be my mum...

...just the second day of the year and I woke up hearing arguments between my mum and my younger sister. suddenly, it dawned on me the realisation that my mum is more tired than she was before and tears started to flood my cheek.

I was never a good son, yet. I am still failing in terms of supporting mum and my siblings and it pains me to know that, not because I am giving up but because I always wanted seeing them all happy.

I loathed myself now that I sometimes feel wrong about the situation, that I feel I was trapped in a family I don't want to be in anymore. However, this same emotion is what driving me more to love my family especially my mum. She might not be the mum who stayed beside me every night finishing assignments, or being there on school occasions, but she was the one who raised us all, and that is enough for me to be thankful for, to have her as my mum.

I can forget problems into drinking but I never did, drinking for me is enjoying with your colleagues and friends not an escape route for your personal worries.

One thing I could be grateful for, I can function in the office as expected despite these family problems and I will always push myself to excellence in order to be a good provider. Problems stay in the house and in my mind, bringing it to office wouldn't lessen it.

Funny that I took the Accountancy course because right now, our lives all depends on numbers, and it is a cycle of numbers that keep us all breathing.

This Year 2010, I am happy because I am blessed to have some of my real and trusted friends, from old days (high school, college, previous companies) and the new ones too.

I learned my own lessons, not to expect of everyone to act how I want them to be. For that, I won't get disappointed.

As for my mum, I will never stop working hard and appreciating her as it will never be enough to repay her. Four months from now, it will be our birthday, just two days apart from each other, and I hope to give her the best birthday present a son could give to his mother...

THE BOY'S DREAM

My feet dragged me away from the terminal. It was past ten in the evening but instead of riding a public vehicle, I found myself walking, ignoring the people around me. Exhausted from more than twelve hours work, I could not believe the energy running in my veins. Along the way, I saw a physically disabled man, his right leg-cut. In the blink of an eye, I realised how blessed I was in all aspects...

I continued walking with little steps while my mind drifted away. I was singing random songs but my mind was already occupied of so many thoughts about my family, my career, my friends, my personal dreams. The past few days had never been harder. I was battling my way out to support my family in any means I possibly can. Sometimes, I get tired, I tend to give up. I feel like failing my own happiness if I can not make them smile especially my mum. However, I must admit I do have my own limitations but my deepest desires to give them a more comfortable life (at least) kept me going stronger.

Funny that you can not depend on the people you are closest with and that hurts particularly if they start to misjudge. Irony of the ironies, the people you know who are certain and can be able to help are obviously not the ones you can rely on.

Life goes on, like my walk becoming a marathon- a journey of realisations.

Fifteen minutes passed, I stopped for few minutes then I looked back. I've walked a bit far, and the destination is also far from where my eyes could see. If I stop in the middle of it, I won't be able to appreciate the beauty and silence of the night and so I moved...

Same thing in life, either you stop and lose all your dreams or fight your own weaknesses, aim for the finish line and celebrate its glory. For me, I am choosing the latter. I have not reached that finish line yet but I have achieved a lot.

I can still see that little boy from the hills dreaming his dreams, and that was fifteen years ago where the struggles started. The place was dry, houses placed side by side, children playing all day, adults lining up on the single water station...that was Bulao. When strong rains hit the area, it hits more the boy's house, leaving the floor and all clothes wet. It was a pity living on that for more than 4 years, but the family stayed long for survival. His mother did all kind of works, from accepting laundries, planting gardens, selling vegetables to the neighbourhood, and asking help from different people while her children, all glued to their books, studying hard to finish school regardless if attending the whole day class would mean no food in between breaks.

Of the most notable memories was selling sweetcorns. Before the crack of dawn, the boy's family has a share on the harvested crops already-owned by the neighbour. They will cook these on two big cans-cans you see on bakeries. All throughout the day, the whole family is subdivided into groups and will have their own routes, selling the hot sweetcorns under the heat of the scorching sun. At the end of the day, the capital will be paid back to the owner and the remaining for family's necessities.

The routine went on like this, sweetcorns, vegetables, banana queue, and others.

Fortunately for that young boy, he graduated second in the class on sixth grade-lucky enough for someone who just started on his class last quarter of the year already.

After the graduation, he had to prove his worth to make it to high school. He knew though that he did not receive the most complete education in grade school as he was jumping from one school to another year after year. On the entrance examination day, he finished anyways and waiting his turn for the interview. The teacher spoke english so fluently, he felt like his tongue backing out of its root. He wasn't so well versed in the language, was never trained to speak like one. Then his turn came, he was simply asked-why do you want to study on this school? The response came quickly, thinking that time he has nothing else to say- "to learn more." Short as it seems, he saw the teacher wrote down "I" on her notebook. Few weeks later, he was enrolled to the pilot section out of 25+ sections...

The hardships elevated to secondary years too. To study is to labor the pain of not eating. To study meant ten pesos a day. The hopes sometimes falter but never gone. To make his way through the secondary school, he went home usually past seven in the evening for he has to clean the comfort rooms first. Disgusting as it was, that has been the boy's life for a few months....

His brothers did the most unthinkable too. They worked picking up garbage in a polluted river. Everyday was a challenge. The whole family had been used to coffee matched with one pack of bread known as 'pianuno' or 'ube'...

Happinness came out of the small things. Then was the time when they drink water from the water jug, stains filtered only by a shirt or towel placed atop the jug...

What If and Puzzle

What if...

Oftentimes, people ask themselves the two word question 'what if...'

Once a person asks this, he/she begins to doubt and possibly regret the decisions made in the past which will only complicate the present and confuse the future.

I am telling this in light of the recent happening with my career. I was told a number of times that if I didn't leave and resign from my last company, I could be the one right at this very moment enjoying the flight to United Kingdom for the training. Yes, it flatters me that people and my friends think of me that way but honestly, it is an absurd idea.

It is absurd because it is baseless. Everyone is just assuming. First, when I decided to resign, there was no counter offer even a centavo to make me change my mind. Second, there was not even a possibility that I'd be transferred back to the original team I was assigned to. Lastly, no hint there will be a travel and I will be among the lucky ones.

In any angle I see it, entertaining this thought will only lead me hating my decisions and blaming myself. It is already enough that I am recognized up to now, priceless.

My friends who are travelling right now to the country I love to go to, I am very happy for them.

Life is a mysterious puzzle, each of us carry the piece to form it. One move will change the move of the other. One wrong move will make others choose the incorrect step too but one right move will align everyone...and I do believe that I made the right decision because it pave the way for others to put their pieces right.

THE PRIZE

While everyone must have been dreaming their future in their sleeps, I just got home, four in the morning. I labored 6 hours in the office finishing the manual recording system, alone. Though I know that my mind can stand the time, my body is weak enough to stay awake.

Wth this pressure going on in my career, I sense that I started to embrace, finally, my new work. Whenever I devote too much time improving the system, the process, it only means I am enjoying already.

Eventually, everyone will be able to deliver the speed and accuracy and we can stand on our own.

At the end of the day, no matter how tired you are, as long as you have the support of your team, your lead, and your friends and family, it will ease out the burden and stress you have...

MORE THAN A FACEBOOK...

Social networking has taken a big leap and brought a whole new meaning to what internet can do to connect friends, family, and different people across the globe. Gone were the days of postal snail mail, pen-pals, phone-pals and many others. Even the social networking has improved its own world, you now have Friendster (which I say is kind of outdated among the group), Twitter (where you read shouts of what’s going on to people you follow), Blog (online diary), You Tube (online channel for thousands of videos) and the most famous...Facebook.

Facebook is well known, fun to use and an all in one resource. You can post pictures, videos, play games, chat. This has overtaken other online tools thus making it more global.

With the recent typhoon that hit Philippines last week, Facebook was one of the channels used to express sympathy and help to Filipinos. It was use to call out for volunteers, prayers, spread news and alerts. Facebook is now more than a Facebook, it is now one major channel of communication and everyone knows that!

On a lighter note, Facebook is also becoming extremely popular to all ages, because of its many applications. One of which is Farmtown!

Who doesn’t know Farm now? I bet just few.

My friend Chlaus and I were chatting while working for other people’s farms and we were discussing how Farm town has influenced our lives. We did not expect it to be addicting, and both of us are on the verge of getting a free entrance to Mental Hospital (on a good note). We dared on a race to level up, embellish our respective farms and earn more coins. We harvest and plow for each other as well.

...then out of nowhere, we instantly created a drama out of Farmtown since I hired her to harvest on my farm, here is a short script. We both laughed on this! (please click on the picture for better reading)...

Having Farm Town in Facebook in our lives now is our way of enjoying, free from the stress and pressure of work, from the personal problems.
